I honestly don't know if I qualify, but I sure hope so, because to be the school sponser for Wellesley College, Wellesley MA would be a dream come true. The problem is the mileage requirement. You see, I live 77 miles from the school NOT as the Crow flies, but on roadways ,in a straight line I just might squeak by. I live in Falmouth MA, on the Cape. So as the crow flies it's probably a little over the mileage requirement, but man, it's my keyword city and all. doesn't that give me some leeway? I'm the keyword city manager for that place, after all! I won't let you people think this over before I furnish you with everything else required. The above is my 9yr old nephew's school, about 8 blocks away. Are we to select only one school, multiple or all in the city? There are many schools in my city/county.

Here is an idea which might be helpful to new School Sponsors.

What if you suggested to teachers that they assign a class project to research and develop a class report on the history of some significant event in the history of their town.

After class discussion and fine-tuning of this report it then would be placed in the Wiki pages of LocalSearch for that city. This might make the Wiki entries more accurate and give the students a feeling for the value of local history.

What if a business was highlighted on the anniversary date of its opening in that town, especially if it has been there for a very long time. How did it get started? Is it still run by descendants of the original owners?

Could the students be helped to write and produce a little dramatic stage production of that story? Maybe some students could be trained to create a video of the story using current owners and employees?

Announce it in the School's SBD bloglanding page and in SBD press release page for that city. Then invite the parents and Business Chamber of Commerce to a History Night in the School gym when the story would be performed on stage.

The master of ceremonies (or school principal) would explain the SBD project and how it works. Also report on how much SBD school money has been raised to date. Then ask for more parents and businesses to get on board.

What do you think? Maybe once a month do a "Tonight in History" drama production. Then put it in SBD video???

Just so everyone knows you no longer have to live within 50 miles of a school you wish to sponsor. Now you can sponsor a school even if you live in another country.

Looking over the new site (It is looking great so far), it hit me that if we are going to be encouraging children to search on it, that maybe there needs to be some kind of parental controls added to avoid them getting the sex sites which are showing up in some searches. Can you program something in? Or will the schools have to add their own netnanny type software to block some of the searches?

I can see this being a great fundraising event for the schools instead of "candy sales" Then this historical information would be available for all future searches from the students.
